common questions about upgrading...

Do I have to rewire my house to upgrade?
No! The existing wire run throughout the building is an investment you can recover. ZoneZ is compatible, so all existing wire can be used.

Will all my switches need to be replaced?
All non-lit switches will be compatible with ZoneZ. The only switches that need changed at the time of an upgrade are those with indicator lights. These control stations need to be upgraded to a newer model that uses LEDs. LEDs are much more efficient and draw less current from the transformer. The old pilot lights will NOT function with a new system.

Can I just replace part of my system for now or do I need to upgrade it all at once?
The retrofit must happen to the existing system in its entirety. ZoneZ uses a power supply that operates differently from the transverter of the older system. An old system and a new system cannot work together because of this variance.

I'm pretty familiar with my Touch-plate system. Can I perform this upgrade myself, or do I need an electrician to do so?
ZoneZ is a very user friendly system and, during an upgrade, most of the wires being dealt with are low voltage. However, the high voltage wires must be disconnected from the existing panel and reconnected to the new system. For this reason, we recommend having an electrician or qualified person onsite to handle line voltage work. You are definitely able to do the low voltage work yourself.

Why should I stay with Touch-plate? I've considered changing my system to conventional wiring. Can you explain the benefits of keeping my Touch-plate system?
Changing to conventional wiring will require a major renovation, which includes the removal of all the drywall in the home. The electrician would have to access the light fixtures needing to be controlled; and drywall, cabinets and trim boards would all be in the way. All of the old wiring would need to be removed and new wiring purchased and put in its place. This would involve many paid hours of an electrician's time. When this work is finished, the result will leave NO remote control wiring. Only conventional, local switches will be used, which means that one has to walk all over the home nightly to make sure all the lights are turned off. On the other hand, by remaining with Touch-plate, ALL of the existing wiring in the walls will remain a permanent investment that has lost no value. Upgrading to a current system allows one to gain 21st Century technology and protect the investment for the future. The value of the home will be restored, as an old system is transformed into a manageable and reliable product. Also, upgrading with Touch-plate allows the advantage of a multitude of Features and Benefits that new Touch-plate control systems offer.
